WORKSHOPS

In addition to performances, Antoinette and her drumming and dancing group Nyame Tsease African Traditionals also has an extensive experience in teaching others how to dance and drum. Regularly they execute workshops for people coming to Cape Coast to learn the traditions of African drumming and dancing. In addition Antoinette has traveled to both US and Europe to teach people. Antoinette and Nyame Tsease African Traditionals have also done a 6 week tour in Sweden in 2012 teaching both adults and children.

What if I did that...?

You will learn and study with Ghana’s Award Winning, only female Master drummer, Antoinette Adwoa Kudoto and Nyame Tsease African Traditionals.

You will be taught the traditions and music of Ghana, including drumming, dancing, singing, and storytelling – and how drums and dance communicate together in the field of the performing arts. You will learn how drumming and dancing help empower our spiritual, psychological and interpersonal attitudes towards ourselves and others. You will be challenged both physically and musically as the workshops will be customized to your skills.

Where can I do it...?

For a big group of participants, the classes are held on the beach in front of Oasis Beach Resort in the historical town of Cape Coast. For a group of 1-4 participants, the workshops are held at Antoinette’s African shop near Cape Coast sports stadium (see the map on the right). Antoinette is very flexible and she travels all around the world to give classes. Among many other places she has been teaching students at the University of Michigan, Minnesota, New Hampshire and Boston College.

When can I do it...?

The time of the workshops is very flexible. We only need 5-6 hours prior notice. Wednesday though is a ban on drumming in Cape Coast. However, if Wednesday works best in your schedule, workshops can be arranged elsewhere outside Cape Coast.

How can I arrange it...?

If you are taking classes for more than one day, Antoinette will be happy to also show you various tourist attractions in Cape Coast such as Global Mamas office or visit Antoinette and Nyame Tsease African Traditionals' bakery to learn how to bake Ghanaian bread, cakes and pastries. Additional tours such as Shamans, visiting other villages, schools, groups, orphanages, midwives, etc. can also be arranged.

If you are up for an experience of a lifetime of learning how to dance and drum the Ghanaian way, please contact Antoinette by phone on +233-244-677734 or by email on olargengo@hotmail.com.

25% of all profits go to the Nyame Tsease African Traditionals, which supports orphans, poor children and homeless children in Cape Coast, Ghana. This contribution is support for their education and learning a trade to support themselves and their families.
