Nyame Tsease African Traditionals

Nyame Tsease African Traditionals("God lives") is an African cultural group based in Cape Coast, Ghana. The group is made up of local children and adults from in and around the Cape Coast area and is comprised of people from poor backgrounds, homeless families and orphans. The leader, founder and the artistic director of Nyame Tsease African Traditionals is Ghana’s award winning only female master drummer, Antoinette Adwoa Kudoto.

Nyame Tsease was established in the year 1997 with the membership of 5 which has now increased over the years. Some of the group members have been in the group for more than 16 years so the group is now considered as a family for the group members. They share each other’s joy, sorrow and happiness as they travel around to teach others African dancing and drumming.

The members are mostly underprivileged and orphans whose parents cannot afford to take them to school. Because of the group and the drumming most of the group members have now gained skills to perform and teach drumming and dancing. Thus some of them have gained employment at government institutions, e.g. the Center for National Culture. Also proceeds from workshops and performances are being shared among the members who thus have increased their living standard. Now they are not homeless street children anymore as the proceeds from the workshops has increased their standard of living and they are now living an average standard of life in the Ghanaian society. In addition to increasing their living standard meeting people from all over the world and travelling to other countries has been giving the members of Nyame Tsease African Traditionals  a broaden idea about other cultures. The group has taught and performed at various schools, colleges and churches in Sweden as the members have undergone series of workshops and training on African drumming and dancing and how to provide others with that knowledge.

The group aims at passing on the art of African drumming, dancing, singing, acting and storytelling to the young generations. In addition to that the group aims at preserving and promoting understanding and appreciation of the African culture throughout the world.
